Jewellery Care

Jewellery, even those made from high class metals, can experience discolouration over time due to multiple factors. These can include exposure to moisture, chemicals and air. Metals like silver and gold are delicate even though they are known to be tarnish free, they can still fade due to a natural process called oxidation.

Plating rubbing off naturally occurs with wear and tear and is not considered a manufacturing fault.

You can follow these simple steps to help your jewellery last longer:

Store your jewellery: when not in use, store your sterling silver jewellery in a cool, dry place, preferably in a jewellery box or pouch. This will prevent tarnishing and discoloration caused by exposure to air and moisture.

Avoid exposure to chemicals: When performing household chores, remove any jewellery that could have direct contact with household cleaners before use or wear rubber gloves to protect them.

Apply products before putting on your jewellery: allow perfume, lotions and creams to be absorbed into skin before putting on your jewellery.

Remove jewellery when doing activities involving water: exposure to sweat, chlorine, and saltwater can cause tarnishing and discoloration.

Handle with care: try to prevent your jewellery from knocking into counter tops and rubbing against each other.

Cleaning 18k gold plated items

Do NOT use products made for pure sterling silver as it can damage the plating on the item due to the strong chemicals. When needed, gently buff the item with a cotton cloth.

Cleaning pearls:

If your pearls are visibly stained, you can mix a solution of lukewarm water and mild dish soap, dip a soft cleaning cloth in it and wipe the pearls. Do NOT submerge a pearl necklace in water
